Home Outreach Pet Exams (HOPE)
Providing veterinary care for pets of home-bound individuals.
Home Outreach Pet Exams (HOPE) is a program of the Colorado Veterinary Medical Foundation (CVMF) that provides basic pet health services through annual, in-home visits by volunteer teams of Colorado licensed veterinarians and certified veterinary technicians. Recommendations for additional care may include vaccinations, laboratory testing, and an annual dental prophylaxis through CVMF’s Harrison Memorial Animal Hospital.

Recognizing the importance of pets in enhancing the well-being and lives of economically disadvantaged seniors and people with disabilities, HOPE serves the basic needs of the pets of that segment of society who are home-bound, living on fixed incomes with minimal family or outside support. HOPE strives to:
• Provide care for pets which may not otherwise receive veterinary care.
• Educate clients in basic home pet care and disease prevention.
• Reassure clients that their pets are being cared for properly.
• Establish a link outside social services to promote the mental well-being of clients.
• Partially relieve the burden of social and governmental agencies in maintaining needed contact with at-risk populations.
• Counsel clients in non-medical needs of their pets.
How can you participate in HOPE?
Clients
In order to enroll in the HOPE program, you must meet income qualification guidelines and be considered home-bound by one of the definitions below:
• Leaving home is a major effort
• You are normally unable to leave home unassisted.
• When you leave home, it must be to get medical care, or for short, infrequent non-medical reasons such as a trip to attend religious services or adult day care.
Enrollment is limited. Not all applicants are guaranteed HOEP services. If you do not consider yourself a home-bound pet owner, but are in need of income-qualified veterinary care for your pet(s), please call Harrison Memorial Animal Hospital at 303.722.5800 ext. 525.
